Hahoe Village is characterized by pristine surroundings and the traditions of the Seonbi (aristocratic-official) which have been handed down for generations in this living village. Visitors can experience the unique traditional culture of Korea. Gyeongju Gyeongju, the ancient capital of the Silla Kingdom located 72km east of Daegu city, is the site of numerous Buddhist temples and cultural artifacts reflecting Silla's majestic culture and artistry. Naturally, it is cited as the nation's most representative historic site. In particular, Bulguksa (temple) and Seokguram (stone grotto), designated as a world cultural heritage by UNESCO, exemplify the high aesthetic standards of Korean ancestors, and imbue visitors with a vivid impression of Korean history Bulguksa Bulguksa was built at the foot of Mt. Tohamsan in Gyeongju. It is the centerpiece of dazzling and elegant Silla Buddhist culture and architecture. UNESCO designated the temple on its World Cultural Heritage list citing its abundance in such important cultural assets as Dabotap stone pagoda (National Treasure No. 21) and Seokgatap stone pagoda (National Treasure No. 23).Seokguram (stone grotto) Seokguram lies on the slope of Tohamsan overlooking Bulguksa Temple, which has also been designated a world cultural heritage by UNESCO. The image of a seated Buddha in Seokguram sculptured with a white granite stone is known for its generous facial expression and elegant proportions. The craftsmanship of the Silla civilization was so sophisticated and profound that one has an illusion of the Buddha actually being alive. The old pine forest leading to Seokguram and the sunrise viewed from this stone grotto create some breathtaking scenery. ¢º Festivals & Events Yaknyeongsi Festival Every May in Yakjeon Alley, various events are offered during the festival such as exhibitions of herb flowers, Oriental medicine samples, demonstrations of herb harvesting and chopping Oriental medicine ingredients Textile & Fashion Festival Twice a year in May and October. During the festival, various events are held including a sewing contest, an international textile design exchange exhibition, a fashion design exhibition, a traditional embroidery competition and a Hanbok (traditional attire) exhibition, among others. Andong International Mask Dance Festival From early to mid-october, near Andong and Hahoe Village. During the festival, mask dance performances, outdoor-stage performances and Korean traditional puppet plays are presented.
