Jeonju, famous among Koreans as a town of culture and cuisine, cultural and artistic tradition emanates from every corner of the city. Jeonju possesses a rich history. This area is the origin of the Joseon Dynasty's family Yi, ruling family of the Dynasty. The city preserves a variety of historical sites, including Pungnammun (gate), Gyeonggijeon (shrine) and Gaeksa, an ancient official guesthouse. Moreover, with its fine local cuisine, Jeonju has long been regarded as the destination of epicures. ts most famous cuisine include Jeonju Bibimbab (cooked rice mixed with vegetables), Jeonju Hanjeongsik (traditional Jeonju-style full-course Korean meal), and Jeonju Kongnamulgukbab (steamed rice mixed with bean sprout soup). Every year, Jeonju hosts the Jeonju Daesaseupnori, a Korean traditional classical music contest, held here for the past 200 years.
Jeonju is also famous for elegant fans and Korean traditional mulberry paper, hanji, which has greatly contributed to the development of traditional Oriental paintings and calligraphy. The hanji produced during the Joseon Era was so valued that it was exported in large quantities to China. Jeonju is a city of art and culture, featuring a wide variety of cultural events, both ancient and modern, ranging from the International Film Festival, the Paper Festival, the International Sori (sound) Festival, to the International Calligraphy Biennale.

Gyeonggijeon (shrine)
Gyeonggijeon is an old shrine built to honor the portrait of King Yi Taejo the great, founder of the Joseon Dynasty. Visitors can experience ancient history unfolding right before their eyes like a panorama as they walk along the tranquil path near the building

Pungnammun (gate)
Pungnammun designated as Treasure No. 308 is the symbol of Jeonju. Built in 1398 during the reign of King Gongyang of the Goryeo Dynasty, it was initially the southern gate of Jeonju Fortress.

Jeondong Cathedral
Jeondong Cathedral designated as Historic Site No.288 was built as a blend of two architectural styles; Byzantine and Romanesque, and is regarded as one of the most beautiful churches in Korea. Since its foundation, this Catholic Church has served as the spiritual pillar of the community and its influence has expanded over the years.

Asia Paper Museum
The Pan-Asia Paper Museum recreates the history of paper making in Jeonju, known as the home of paper production in the nation. The museum serves as a living educational site, featuring the paper culture of the past and the present through diverse paper-related displays. Exhibits also include the informations on modern paper industry, which relies on advanced technology.

Stone Pagoda in Mireuksaji
The Stone Pagoda in Mireuksaji (temple site) in Iksan City near Jeonju City is Korea's first stone pagoda, built during the reign of King Mu of the Baekjae Kingdom (600-641). The pagoda is highly valued as it illustrates the transition from wooden pagodas to stone pagodas. Originally, the structure had nine stories, but only six stories

Jeonju International Film Festival
From late April to early May every year at Chunbuk National University Cultural Center, Deokjin Park and Art Hall. It features independent films, digital movies, and Asian independent films.
Jeonju Daesaseupnori (a Korean traditional classical music Early May at Jeonju On-goeul Gymnasium. It consists of nine different competitions; Korean traditional folk songs, pansori (Korean traditional vocal music), farmer's percussion music, gayageum (a 12-stringed zither) byeongchang (performance featuring both singing and playing an instrument), dances and instrumental music etc.

Pungnam Cultural Festival
From late April to early May every year across the city of Jeonju. (In 2002, to be held during the 2002 FIFA World CupTM games). The festival features food-related events, such as food court serving Jeonju's traditional cuisines and cooking contest, as well as cultural and artistic events, including a hansi (Korean traditional poems) and sijo (a three-verse Korean ode) writing contest.

Hanji Festival
Early May every year at Jeonbuk Art Center, Gyeonggijeon and the Pan-Asia Paper Museum. (In 2002, to be held during the World Cup Games) Major offerings include hands-on paper making events and exhibitions at the Pan-Asia Paper Museum.

International Sori (sound) Festival
Mid-October every year at the Sori Art Center of Jeollabuk-do, Jeonbuk University Samsung Cultural Center as well as across North Jeolla Province. Main events include performances by foreign musical artists, a Korean traditional music festival and the children's sori festival
